7.53, the ERA that Roenis Elias (SSG Landers) posted against the NC Dinos in the regular season. But in fall ball, it was a 180-degree turnaround. But no laughing matter.
Elias took the loss in Game 1 of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League postseason semifinals against NC at SSG Landers Field in Incheon on Aug. 22, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk while striking out six in eight innings of work.
Elias donned the SSG uniform in the middle of the season. Initially, a left-handed fireballer named Eni Romero was signed by SSG, but he suffered a shoulder injury during a scrimmage at the Okinawa spring training camp in February. In May, SSG claimed Romero off waivers and signed Elias.
This season, Elias appeared in 22 games (21 starts) with a 7-6 record, 131 1/3 innings pitched, 58 runs (55 earned), 93 strikeouts, a 3.77 ERA, and a 1.32 WHIP (walks allowed per nine innings). However, he had a weak showing against NC. In three starts, he went 1-4 with 13 runs (12 earned) in 14 1/3 innings, 5 strikeouts, a 7.53 ERA, and a 1.47 WHIP.
Elias faced the NC twice in October. He was rocked for 5 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits (1 HR) and 1 walk in 3 innings against the Incheon NC on the 3rd, and 5 days later against the Changwon NC on the 8th, he allowed 7 runs (7 earned) on 9 hits (2 HR) and 1 walk in 5⅓ innings. Both games were won by SSG, but Elias’ performance was not good.
However, on the 16th, Elias pitched 7 innings of 1 run (1 earned), 4 hits, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts against the Jamsil Doosan Bears. After a five-day break, Elias took the mound again against the NC and put on another strong show.
Before the game, manager Kim Won-hyung was wary of the NC bats. In the first game of the wild-card deciding series against Doosan on the 19th, the team hit 12 hits, including three home runs, and scored 14 runs to win 14-9. 짱구카지노 주소
“I watched the wild card game,” said Kim Won-hyung. If you look at the top hitters in the NC, they’ve been hitting so well this season. Not only this season, but they consistently hit .300. You have to admit that they are hitting well,” he said. “I think the starting pitchers will have to do a good job.”
“In the wild card game, we had a lot of long balls in the bottom of the order, and we connected the offense to the top of the order with good contact,” he said. “We scored a lot of runs through that, but I think we need to be a little more careful.”
True to coach Kim Won-hyung’s wishes, Elias put on a stunning performance and shut down the NC bats. From the first to the third inning, he didn’t leave a single runner on base.
Elias ran into his first trouble in the top of the fourth inning. After striking out Son Ah-seop, he gave up back-to-back singles to Park Min-woo and Park Gun-woo to put runners on first and second. It was a situation that would lead to NC’s fourth and fifth batters. But Elias’ crisis management skills shined through. He got Jason Martin to fly out to right field. He then retired Hee-dong Kwon on a foul fly to first base.
