Korea Shell Petroleum Corporation (hereinafter referred to as “Shell”) has named Pedi (NC) as the pitcher and Hong Chang-ki (LG) as the hitter for the September 2023 KBO League’s “Shell Helix Player,” an award presented by Shell in conjunction with the KBO based on WAR.
Pedi, the best pitcher in the KBO, topped the pitcher category with a WAR of 1.68. In four games in September, he ranked first in wins (3), first in ERA (0.66), 11th in innings pitched (27⅓), first in WHIP (0.44), and first in strikeouts (40). LG’s run-scoring machine Hong Chang-ki tops the list of “shell-helicopter” hitters with a WAR of 1.67. In 24 games in September, he ranked second in hits (35), first in runs scored (23), sixth in stolen bases (5), eighth in RBI (15), eighth in batting average (0.402), and fifth in slugging percentage (0.486). After leading his team, the LG Twins, to the regular season championship, Hong is on track to win his first MVP award and become the second player in history to reach 300 RBIs.
Pedi’s award ceremony for the September Shell Helix Player will be held at Changwon NC Park, and Hong’s ceremony for the October award will be held at Jamsil Baseball Stadium.
