Can Tottenham’s Son Heung-min, 31, score his 200th European goal?
Tottenham hosts Liverpool on March 1 in the seventh round of the 2023-24 English Premier League season.
It’s an important game for both teams. The Reds are unbeaten with five wins and one draw, while Spurs are unbeaten with four wins and two draws. It’s a great opportunity for two teams with strong early-season form to see how they stack up against each other.
However, things aren’t so positive for Spurs. They’ve been dealing with a number of injuries to key players.
Tottenham posted an update on the club’s official website on Tuesday titled “Manager’s update on James Maddison, Brennan Johnson and Heung-min Son”.
“Son and Maddison, who were substituted early in the 2-2 draw with Arsenal last weekend due to injury concerns, have trained this week,” the club explained, adding that “Postecoglou has emphasized the need to assess their fitness once more ahead of the Liverpool game.”
Son and Maddison combined for two goals in the team’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the sixth round of the Premier League on April 24. Madison assisted on both of Son’s goals.
The two players were substituted in the 34th minute of the second half, alongside Heung-Min Son and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. It was a preemptive move due to injury concerns. It was also reported that they had not trained fully in midweek. 먹튀검증
Postecoglou said: “After the Arsenal game, Heung-min Son and Maddison were not feeling well. They trained today and went above and beyond what we need. But they both need to improve their form.”
Son will be looking to score his 200th European goal against Liverpool. He made his European debut for Hamburg in 2008, before moving on to Leverkusen and then Tottenham in August 2015.
In January 2021, Son reached the 150-goal milestone in European competition and is now just one goal away from the coveted 200-goal milestone.
Meanwhile, Son has been in strong form for Liverpool, scoring five goals in 14 Premier League appearances. Liverpool have Mohamed Salah, who is joint top scorer in the Premier League with Son with 23 goals in the 2021-22 season. The battle of egos between the two players will be a sight to behold.
