Gyeongnam FC head coach Seol Ki-hyun says he is largely to blame for the team’s recent poor run of form.
Gyeongnam lost 0-1 against Bucheon in the 33rd round of the Hana OneQ K League 2 2023 at Bucheon Sports Complex at 6:30 p.m. on the 24th. Gyeongnam also failed to turn the tide after failing to win in three consecutive matches.
Head coach Seol Ki-hyun said at the post-match press conference, “It was an important game, but it wasn’t a good result. The players played hard and I think they did their best,” he said.
Gyeongnam hasn’t been on a roll lately. They have only one win in seven games. “My fault is the biggest,” said coach Seol, “The players did a good job. The opponents have prepared well for what we lacked. I think our performance is dropping because I’m not good enough as a coach. We need to prepare harder,” he added.
After losing the lead to Bucheon, Gyeongnam tried to make a comeback in the second half with four players – Lee Kwang-jin, 레모나토토 Park Min-seo, Mo Jae-hyun, and Won Ki-jong – but it didn’t work.
Coach Seol said, “The players played hard in the first half. They held up well. In the second half, we lost a lot of energy, and I thought the substitutes could do a good job, but it wasn’t easy. We conceded a set piece, which made it a difficult game,” he said, adding that he regretted not being able to fully utilize his substitutions.
Finally, Seol concluded, “We need to work on being a solid team defensively because when you concede goals, it becomes more difficult. We conceded a lot of set pieces. We need to continue to work on our deficiencies in the remaining matches,” he said, adding that minimizing goals is an urgent priority.
