Tottenham have agreed a deal with Bayern Munich for Harry Kane. In need of a replacement for Kane, Spurs are considering a move for Romelu Lukaku.
According to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, “With the sale of Kane, we need to sign a striker. We have Alejo Velis, but he is a signing for the future. Mehdi Taremi and Lukaku are being talked about. Lukaku is in London at the moment,” the report said.
Tottenham have been in talks with Munich throughout the transfer window. The Bavarians were in need of a striker to replace Robert Lewandowski. Lewandowski left Munich to join Barcelona. Lewandowski has been with the Bavarians since 2014 and has been the Bundesliga’s top scorer for six seasons.
The Bavarians tried to fill the void left by Lewandowski, but it was a big one. Erik Choupo-Moting replaced Lewandowski, but it wasn’t enough. He only scored 10 goals. The club also tried to sign Sadio Mane from Liverpool, but it didn’t work out.
Without Lewandowski, Munich struggled to win the league title last season. They’ve been dominant in the Bundesliga in recent years, but last season they were outclassed by Dortmund. After losing the league title to Dortmund, Munich fired Julian Nagelsmann and hired Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel declared that a treble was the goal, but the Bavarians were eliminated in the quarterfinals of both the UEFA Champions League and DFB Pokal. They regained the top spot, only to be knocked back by Dortmund. Fortunately, they were spared as Dortmund lost to Mainz in the final. Munich targeted Kane, who is arguably the best striker in the world right now, to bolster their offense.
Negotiations were not easy. Tottenham repeatedly rejected Munich’s offers. The Bavarians offered €70 million, but Spurs refused to budge. Munich didn’t back down easily. They made a second offer of €80 million. Tottenham’s position was the same this time. Tottenham wanted a much higher price than what Munich offered. Tottenham set a price tag of €120 million (approximately $173.4 million) for Kane’s transfer.
Munich refused to give up and finally got their man. “Munich have agreed a deal with Tottenham for Kane,” said British outlet The Athletic, “Munich have agreed a deal with Tottenham for Kane. Tottenham accepted Munich’s offer, which was worth more than 100 million euros ($145 million). Kane has also agreed to join Munich and has been offered a four-year contract.” 꽁머니
Kane was the centerpiece of Tottenham’s offense. Kane scored 280 goals in 435 appearances for Spurs. He is, unsurprisingly, Tottenham’s all-time leading scorer. His 213 goals in the English Premier League (EPL) put him second on the all-time scoring list behind Alan Shearer’s 260, and he’s also England’s all-time leading scorer with 58 caps. Last season was no different for Kane. He scored 30 goals in the EPL, second only to Elling Holland. He was responsible for 30 of Tottenham’s 70 goals last season.
